School fundamentals

Holmewood House School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (60%/40%) between the ages of 2 and 13 years. Boarding from Year 3 for the 10% of pupils who board. All are weekly or flexi boarders. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school. Holmewood House School fees range from £5,280 (Rec) to £9,450 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £13,080 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Average class size

Holmewood House School has two classes per year in pre-prep rising to three or four, and an average class size of 15 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

About 30% of Holmewood House School leavers head for a Tunbridge Wells grammar school at the end of Year 6. Destinations for the 70% who stay on are one of 20 independent day and boarding schools at Year 8. Eastbourne Collegiate School and Tonbridge School account for 50% of leavers. Mayfield School and Sevenoaks School are also popular. 30-40% of pupils win awards and scholarships.

The Holmewood House School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, French, Spanish, Latin, Greek. British Council’s International School Award accreditation reflects the schools ‘international mindedness programme’. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School for Early Years and residential trips from Year 6.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for music and sport from Year 1, for art, languages, computing, and drama from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Holmewood House School

School is one of the 50 prep schools with the most extensive sports offers in the UK. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in football, gymnastics, judo, netball, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming.

The Arts at Holmewood House School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and three-quarters take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Six choirs, two orchestras (including a pre-prep orchestra) and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 6.00pm. Facility for occasional boarding.
