Loretto Junior School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (60%/40%) between the ages of 3 and 12 years. Boarding from Year 7 for the 10% of pupils who board. 50% are full boarders and 50% are weekly or flexi boarders. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Loretto School, an all-through school to age 18. Loretto Junior School fees range from £3,733 (Rec) to £7,678 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £13,460 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

The Loretto Junior School curriculum

School curriculum is a blend of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and the English National Curriculum. Enquiry skills are developed through cross-curricular topics for science, history and geography to P5. The curriculum also includes PSHE, philosophy, French, Latin. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, Forest School up to Primary 5 and residential trips from Primary 4.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for music, art, languages, drama, and sport throughout, and for science in Primary 7.

Sport at Loretto Junior School

3 Games and 1 PE session per week. School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Primary 3. Golf academy. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in golf.

The Arts at Loretto Junior School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and 80% take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Primary 3. Choir, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

Wraparound care from 7.45am to 6.30pm. Occasional boarding facility. School minibus service.
