School fundamentals

Newton Prep is an independent prep day school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 3 and 13 years. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is a standalone prep school, not tied to any one senior school. Newton Prep fees range from £8,990 (Rec) to £10,220 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT and lunches.

Average class size

Newton Prep has four classes per year to Year 6, two from Year 7, and an average class size of 18 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

Destinations for Year 6 Newton Prep leavers are one of 50, mainly independent, day schools. The spread of schools is wide but Emanuel, Dulwich College, Alleyn’s and JAGS account for 30% between them. 60% of pupils leave at Year 6, 40% carry on to Year 8. After Common Entrance, King’s College School Wimbledon, Dulwich College ,Whitgift and Bede’s School are the most popular destinations. 25% of pupils win awards and scholarships.

The Newton Prep curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, reasoning, thinking skills, French, Spanish, Latin. Humanities subjects are taught thematically throughout the school. The Newton Prep Diploma, in Years 7 and 8, is a thematic skills-based curriculum linking geography, history, religious studies, art, drama and citizenship. Annual STEAM week. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 4.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, computing, and languages throughout, for science and art from Year 3, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Newton Prep

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in fencing, football, rugby 7s.

The Arts at Newton Prep

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. Each pupil may participate in up to 10 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
