School fundamentals

Ratcliffe College Prep School is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (50%/50%) between the ages of 3 and 11 years. Boarding from Year 6 for the very small number of pupils who board. All are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Roman Catholic school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the prep school to Ratcliffe College, an all-through school to age 18. Ratcliffe College Prep School fees range from £5,040 (Rec) to £6,660 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT but exclude lunches.

Ratcliffe College Prep School has two classes per year rising to three, and an average class size of 17 pupils.

At the end of Year 6, most Prep School pupils move up to Ratcliffe College.

The Ratcliffe College Prep School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHCE, French, Latin. Subjects are linked through ‘thematic topics’ throughout. School values are informed by Catholic social morality. Religious Education accounts for 10% of curriculum time. There is daily collective worship and prayer, and observance of Catholic celebrations. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 5.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, languages, drama, and music throughout, and for art, DT, computing, and science in Year 6.

Sport at Ratcliffe College Prep School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in hockey.

The Arts at Ratcliffe College Prep School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. Drama is part of the English curriculum until Year 5 when it too is taught separately. All pupils learn an instrument in class and up to half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Choir and some instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
