School fundamentals

Leweston Prep is an independent prep day and boarding school for boys and girls (40%/60%) between the ages of 3 months and 11 years. Boarding from Year 4 for the very small number of pupils who board. 70% are full boarders and 30% are weekly or flexi boarders. It is a Roman Catholic school, open to all faiths and none. The school has a non-selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Leweston School, an all-through school to age 18. Leweston Prep fees range from £3,585 (Rec) to £5,954 per term (2025/26). Full boarding fees are £10,216 per term. Fees include VAT and lunches.

Average class size

Leweston Prep has one class per year to Year 2, two from Year 3, and an average class size of 16 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

At the end of Year 6, most Prep School pupils move up to Leweston School.

The Leweston Prep curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHE, reasoning, French, Spanish, Latin. School values are informed by Catholic social morality. Religious Education accounts for 10% of curriculum time. There is collective worship and prayer, and observance of Catholic celebrations. Pupils are also prepared for the Holy Sacraments. There is cross-curricular learning throughout the school to reinforce the learning behaviours and skills development philosophy characterised as the ‘Leweston Learner’. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 5. Every year group has a Forest School session every week.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, languages, art and computing throughout, and for most subjects by Year 5.

Sport at Leweston Prep

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in shooting.

The Arts at Leweston Prep

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Choir and some instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care from 7.30am to 5.45pm. School minibus service.
