It is the prep department of Portsmouth High School, an all-through school to age 18, and is a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust. Portsmouth High Prep School fees range from £3,585 (Rec) to £4,726 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT but exclude lunches.

The Portsmouth High Prep School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and also includes PSHE, reasoning, French, Mandarin, Latin. The approach is thematic to Year 2, and subjects are taught separately from Year 3, though skills are developed through the ‘Explorers’ approach. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups and visiting speakers. Pupils in all year groups participate in Beach School and Forest School sessions. Residential trips from Year 5.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music and languages throughout, and for most subjects from Year 3.

Sport at Portsmouth High Prep School

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Representative teams in major sports from Year 3.

The Arts at Portsmouth High Prep School

Art and music are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils, as is drama for one term per year from Year 3. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Choir, orchestra and one or two instrument ensembles. The school offers each pupil over 5 different extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
