The St Paul's Steiner School curriculum

School follows the Steiner curriculum which emphasises creativity with a balance of artistic, practical and intellectual topics. For example, technology lessons are handwork (knitting, sewing, etc), and craft (woodwork, metalwork, basket weaving), and gardening. The first lesson of the day is the two hour thematic ‘Main Lesson’, after which there are five discrete subject lessons. Curriculum also includes PSHE, French, German. The school has a no devices policy for pupils up to Year 6, and there is no formal testing through primary years.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 4.

Specialist teaching

Steiner practice is that pupils have the same class teacher throughout the school, for Main Lesson at least. Specialist staff teach languages, sport, eurythmy, woodwork, handwork , outdoor work, drama, music, and later, maths and English.

Sport at St Paul's Steiner School

PE curriculum focuses on non-competitive sports up to Class 5 (Year 6), and movement.

The Arts at St Paul's Steiner School

Art, music, and Eurythmy are taught as discrete and cross-curricular subjects to all pupils.

Wraparound care

School hours are 8.15am to 1.15pm (to Year 2), 3.30pm (from Year 3). After school care for all year groups to 5.30pm.
