The Elms School, Malvern curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHE, rural studies, STEAM, French, Latin, Greek. The school’s new curriculum from Year 5 maintains the ISEB Common Entrance subjects of maths, English, science, French, Latin and Greek. Otherwise it is taking a cross-curricular and thematic approach for history, geography, theology, philosophy and religion. Similarly for rural studies and computing. And on Saturdays STEAM projects will further promote thinking and project skills. The school offers each child a handful of extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers, ‘Woodland Challenge’ in pre-prep and residential trips from Year 3.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport and music throughout, for computing, languages, rural studies and DT from Year 2, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at The Elms School, Malvern

School offers between 10 and 15 different sports over the course of the year. Horse riding lessons for all pupils in the main school. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in hockey.

The Arts at The Elms School, Malvern

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and up to half take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Two choirs and one or two instrument ensembles. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.
