School fundamentals

Westminster Under School is an independent prep day school for boys between the ages of 7 and 13 years. From September 2026 it will open a pre-prep, and become co-ed starting with Reception, Year 3 and Year 7. It is a Church of England school, open to all faiths and none. The school has an academically selective admissions policy. It is the junior division of Westminster School, an all-through school to age 18. Westminster Under School fees range from £10,843 (Rec) to £11,113 per term (2025/26). Fees include VAT and lunches.

Westminster Under School has one class in Year 3, two classes per year from Year 4, four from Year 7, and an average class size of 18 pupils.

Leavers' destinations

In the past 5 years 83% of Westminster Under School pupils have moved up to Westminster Great School. Other destinations have included Eton College (13%), and Winchester College (2%). 20% of pupils won awards and scholarships. Progression to the Great School is automatic for those pupils joining in Year 7.

The Westminster Under School curriculum

School curriculum follows the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum (for half of Years 7 and 8). Curriculum also includes PSHEE, study skills, French, Latin, Greek. The school offers each pupil between 5 and 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs. In recent years the school has enjoyed national tournament success in chess, maths, science.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 3. The Enterprise Programme, for all pupils, comprises fundraising, community engagement, and environmental activities.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, art, drama, RS and languages throughout, and for most subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Westminster Under School

School offers over 15 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in skiing.

The Arts at Westminster Under School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and nearly all take extra-curricular instrument lessons. Two choirs, two orchestras and several instrument ensembles. The choir has a strong track record in national choral competitions. There are some extra-curricular creative and performing arts clubs.

Wraparound care

There is no formal wraparound care. The school day is from 8.00am to 4.00pm, though clubs can extend the day to 5.00pm.
